This painting is titled 'Cotton Candy Angel  Tree as the colors so reminded me of the colors that one sees in that summer treat.  I created this painting as part of an ongoing series of paintings of the famous Angel Tree located on Johns Island (a barrier reef island) offshore from Charleston, SC.   I have visited this tree and shot many photos of this splendid Live Oak Tree.  The age is uncertain (perhaps 700 or more years old) and it sprawls over a very large area.  The plant is astounding large-with branches that seem to swell to an abnormally large size, then may get thin,  perhaps lie down onto the ground and then lift upwards again towards the sky.  Over 40 species of plant live on various parts of some branches  are other areas of the tree's trunk like extensions. The tree canopy covers an area of over 2000 sq. feet!  My painting was created from several of my photos; I chose to abstract the tree canopy (leaves) by using a series of circular shapes that vary in color. I love how sunlight comes through the leaf canopy of most trees and I wanted the negative area between the branches to be as interesting as the actual tree areas appear.  The tree location is in a lovely small park; protecting the tree from any man made intrusion.  It gave me a sense of wonder, joy,  and peace; I hope that my painting shares a similar emotional response for viewers.   I have carefully painted all of the wider sides of the canvas frame so it may be displayed 'frameless' as well as with a frame.  Please consider looking at the price for this original painting and the options for archival quality printed giclees on canvas posted on my ETSY store website at JoannCullipART .   (https://www.etsy.com/shop/joanncullipART )
